One of the questions submitted on the info gathering form was “why not just use Mastodon Social”?
To be perfectly honest, I’m leaning towards an off-the-shelf open source solution, such as Mastodon Social. But…
- We need to decide on an organizational structure to run and support the social network. When it comes to moderating and potentially removing accounts there needs to be a board of directors making those decisions.
- We need to figure out what features are key to pick the right solution.
- We might land on multiple solutions (on the same server with the same login) to meet the needs of the community.
I also want to incorporate a voting solution to support the the non-profit board and to gather feedback from as many users as possible. If its open, transparent, and users/members have a say in running the organization then I think its more likely to be sustainable for the long-term.
